Rajya Sabha elections: Split in CPM over fielding Yechury from West Bengal

While the West Bengal unit of the party is understood to be keen to field Yechury, another section of CPM is not in favour of the proposal as it would require the party to take support from others like Congress. CPM has 26 MLAs in the West Bengal assembly, and Congress has 45. While TMC can win 4 Rajya Sabha seats, it will fall short of votes for the fifth seat, leaving it open to the opposition.
